Obituary of Marie A Santelli
Please share a memory of Marie to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mechanicville NY, Marie Santelli, age 83, passed away peacefully at home on August 31, 2024 from complications due to cancer. She was born in Schenectady NY, the daughter of the late Angelo Perretta and the late Elsie Meola Perretta. Marie was the loving wife of Charles Santelli for 61 years.
She graduated from Mont Pleasant High School and received teaching degrees and credentials from SUNY at Oneonta and the College of St Rose.
She raised 4 children and was the grandmother of 10 children.
She also enjoyed family time together at Sacandaga Lake. While swimming, water skiing and boating were fun for her, she really enjoyed the family rides in the big station wagon because the entire family took rides in the mountains, sang songs and talked.
She taught Kindergarten in Shenendehowa Central Schools for 20 years. She loved teaching and the students and parents loved her back. Many former students became teachers.
She was compassionate, loving, kind and gentle always looking for the good in people. Her infectious smile and kindness warmed the hearts of frightened kindergarteners on their first day of school and she engaged parent volunteers to create learning experiences for all her students throughout the year.
For the last 7 years, Marie and Chuck enjoyed family and friends at the beach and pool in Boca Raton Florida during the winter months.
She was a communicant of Corpus Christi Church, taught CCD classes, and was a former member of the parish council.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by her 4 children, John and (Theresa)Santelli, of Rhode Island, Christine Santelli (Matt) Mousseau of New Jersey, Cheryl and (Tim) Smith of Ballston Spa NY and Charles and (Luann) Santelli of West Hartford CT. in addition to grandchildren, Laura, Joseph, Ryan, Jeffrey, Caitlin, Cristiana, Evan, Giuliana, Lily and Emilia. She is also survived by her sister Marlene Mortka of Schenectady, and many nieces and nephews.
Services will be held at Corpus Christi Church in Clifton Park NY on Saturday September 7. Calling hours will be held at the church at 9:00AM followed by a Mass at 10 AM and burial at Most Holy Redeemer Cemetery in Niskayuna.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to Community Hospice of Saratoga County 179 Lawrence St, Saratoga Springs, NY 12866 and Corpus Christi Church 2001 Route 9 Round Lake NY 12151
