Obituary of Mortimer J. Kelly
Mortimer J. Kelly, 85, was surrounded by the love of his family when he passed away peacefully, on Tuesday, December 12, 2017, at Ellis Hospital in Schenectady after a brief illness. Mortimer was the son of the late Helen (Coughlin) and Mortimer J. Kelly Jr. He was predeceased by his three sisters; Helen (Wilbur) Klos, Joan (Theodore) Dluginski, and Margaret (Daniel) Vernino.
Mort was a proud graduate of the University of Notre Dame, and he served his country honorably in the United States Marine Corps. Mort retired from New York Telephone where he worked for many years in various positions of responsibility in management. He was a faithful parishioner of Saint Edward the Confessor Catholic Church in Clifton Park. He was a long-time member of McGregor Links Country Club in Wilton. Mort was engaging, energetic and personable in any social setting. He enjoyed traveling to visit family and friends, especially if he could sneak in a round of golf. Mort loved his family, his country, Notre Dame Football and golf. He was one-of-a-kind and he will be missed by many. Go Irish!
Mort is survived by his loving wife of 61 years, Jane (Lobdell) Kelly, their six children; Michael J. Kelly, Bridget Gallup, Brendan (Eileen) Kelly, Kate (Christopher) Hughes, Maura (Patrick) Swan and Anne (James) Sheridan, and his dear cousin Joan (William) Fuger who Mort considered to be his sister. Mort’s nine grandchildren and three great-grandchildren were a very special part of his life and he was very proud; Kelly (William) Ranous, John “Zack” Gallup, Molly (Peter) D’Arcy, Pocket (Morgan) Swan, Conor Kelly, Riley Sheridan, Liam Kelly, Grace Sheridan and Joshua Kelly.
