Obituary of Carl J. Warzek

Carl J. Warzek, aka Wawrzaszek age 84 of Halfmoon, passed away on Thursday, February 2, 2017. Born on April 18, 1932, in Waterford, he was the son of the late Frank and Victoria Olszowy Warzek. He was predeceased by his brother Frank Warzek.
He attended St. Michael’s Grammar School and graduated from Cohoes High School. He then went on to work with Baunit and then Barkley Home Products. After that, he was employed at Ludlow Valve in South Troy. While working there, he was inducted into the Army. After basic training, he was sent to Fort Riley. In April. 1953, he was an Atomic Bomb veteran having served in Knot Hole where he was 200 feet from an atomic blast in a fox hole. After the blast, he was sent out to survey “ground zero” of the bomb. Upon returning to the 8th division in Fort Carson, he was assigned to training new recruits through basic training. After Army duty as Sgt, 1st class of training, he returned to Ludlow Valve for 5 years and was president of the union until they closed in 1959. He was then hired at Bendix/Honey Well in Green Island in 1960 and worked there for 30 years. During his stay there, he took part in organizing the plant into the UAW Local 1508 and served in numerous offices before his retirement in 1990. He then became a manager at the Hudmo Valley Federal Credit Union for 15 years until he retired in 2007.
He enjoyed boating, water skiing, snowmobiling, and took many cruises. Most of all, he loved to spend time with his beloved granddaughter and family.
He is survived by his loving wife, Jeanne Bonenfant Warzek, daughters: Patricia (Anthony) Warzek Zappala and Susan Warzek, granddaughter Morgan Lee Waite of San Francisco, CA brother Robert (Mary Ann) Warzek along with several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Calling hours will be held on Monday from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Catricala Funeral Home Inc. with a funeral Mass on Tuesday at 9:30 a.m. at St. Mary’s Church in Crescent. Burial will follow in St. Joseph’s Cemetery in Waterford.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his memory to St. Mary’s Church, Crescent, 86 Church Hill Rd., Waterford, NY 12188.
