Obituary of Mario Scialdone
Please share a memory of Mario to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Mario Scialdone, age 74 of Halfmoon passed away on Saturday March 14, 2015 at his home. Born on July 26, 1940 in Vitulazio, Italy, he was the son of the late Giovanni and Carmela Scialdone. He was predeceased by his wife Margaret E. Scialdone, Sister Luisa Pezzulo, brother Antimo Scialdone and sister in laws, Vincenzina and Lina Scialdone .
Mario arrived in America at the age of 14 in 1954. He was always a hard working person…Shoveling snow, raking leaves, cutting grass, and delivering newspapers.
A veteran of the US Army, Mario worked as a manufacturing manager for Guyson Corp. in Saratoga. He was a member of the Italian Community Center in Troy, and the West Albany Italian Benevolent Society in Albany, where he played bocce, and also played at many bocce tournaments with his brothers. One particular tournament in Mechanicville produced a record that will never be equaled. He knocked the Pallino out of the court 6 consecutive times! During his time in the Army he played international level soccer in Germany and later played in semi-pro leagues with his brothers in Southington, CT., and Seneca Falls, NY. He loved to golf and always insisted it be played by the rules. He was a proficient basket maker, having learned this craft from his father in Italy. Perhaps Mario’s favorite pastime was watching the NY Yankees in his favorite recliner!
He is survived by his daughter Alina (James) Harvell, son, Joseph P. (Heather) Scialdone, brothers Michele, Antonio (Marie), Armando and Fioravante (Susan) Scialdone, grandchildren, Joseph Harvell, Cassondra (Nathan) Godfrey, Ashley Harvell, Benjamin Scialdone, Nicholas Scialdone, great grandsons Devin James, Carter, Daniel, and Joseph Gunner and sister in laws, Donna (George) Millspaugh, Judy (Mike) Lewandoski and Lynne (Charles) Wimmer.
