Charles "Chuck" Simon Saratoga Springs, NY – Charles "Chuck" Simon, age 57 of Saratoga Springs passed away on Sunday, Sept. 8, 2024 after a four-month battle with cancer. Chuck was a well-regarded member of the horse racing community who had a 20-year career as a head trainer with 359 wins, numerous stakes winners, and $11.2 million in purses. He traveled to three continents racing and purchasing horses for his varied clients. More recently, he worked as a valued consultant, host of the popular podcast "Going in Circles, and spirited writer about all things horse racing. He was a 1990 graduate of the University of Arizona Racetrack Industry Program, a 1987 graduate of the Junior College of Albany, and a 1985 graduate of Saratoga Central Catholic School. Chuck played forward on the basketball teams at both JCA and Spa Catholic where he led the team to three league titles, and was an avid fan of the Miami Dolphins, Houston Astros, New York Knicks, and University of Arizona Wildcats. He is survived by his loving family—parents Charles and Virginia Simon of Clifton Park, brothers David (Kristan) Simon of Halfmoon and Scott (Stephanie) Simon of Ballston Spa, niece Kaitlyn Simon and nephews Cameron, Jacob, and Nicholas Simon—along with a worldwide community of supportive friends. Calling hours are 12-2 pm, followed by a funeral service at 2 pm, on Monday, Sept. 16, at the Catricala Funeral Home 1597 Rt.9 Clifton Park.
