Conrad Sharrow – A Life Well-Lived
Conrad Sharrow, aged 84, passed away peacefully on Monday July 22, 2024, at River Ridge Living Center near Amsterdam, NY, where he had been a resident since December 2023. Born on December 31, 1939, in Glens Falls, NY, Conrad was the son of the late Joseph and Isabel Sharrow and the grandson of the late George and Ruth Farley.
A 1957 graduate of South Glens Falls Central School, Conrad was a standout student who was deeply involved in the music department, playing both the tuba and string bass. His passion for music led him to establish a jazz band during his high school years. His academic achievements earned him a full scholarship from General Motors to attend the University of Buffalo, where he completed a Bachelor's degree followed by a Master's in Education.
Conrad's personal life flourished alongside his professional one when he married Dorothy Noyes on June 19, 1960, at the Presbyterian Church in Glens Falls, NY. The couple enjoyed 64 years of marriage, filled with shared experiences and mutual support.
Professionally, Conrad began his career teaching American History in Orchard Park, NY, before transitioning to a role as a college counselor. In 1968, he and his family moved to Canton, NY, where he joined the Admissions staff at St. Lawrence University, becoming the Director of Admissions until 1987. His career took him to New York University School of Dentistry, where he played a pivotal role in recruiting students globally. Conrad was highly regarded in the college admissions field and received numerous accolades for his contributions and expertise.
Choosing to retire in 2001, Conrad and Dorothy used the opportunity to travel and enjoy their time at their cottage in Long Lake, NY. Conrad's life was marked by dedication to his family, his career, and his love for music and education. He will be remembered for his integrity, kindness, and the indelible impact he made on those around him.
Conrad's legacy continues through his wife, Dorothy, and their three sons, Edward (and Linda) of Glenville, NY, Tom (and Betsy) of Potsdam, NY, and David (and Holly) of Concord, MA. He was a proud grandfather to five grandchildren: Chelsea (Tom); Jessica and Brandon (Ed); and Jack and Ted (David). He is also survived by his brother, Walter of Buffalo, NY.
Funeral arrangements are entrusted to Catricala Funeral Home, 1559 Route 9, Clifton Park, NY 12065. Visitation will be held from 1-4pm Sunday July 28, 2024, followed by a memorial service at 4pm.
