Clifton Park, NY. Theodore "Ted" P. Hahn age 90 passed away peacefully on Monday April 15, 2024 in Bethlehem PA surrounded by his loving family.
Born in Cambridge NY, he was the son of the late John G. and Ada V. (Murphy) Hahn. Ted is survived by his loving wife of 67 years Barbara Ann Hahn (Gotts) and his three daughters; Linda (Rick) Kent, Cynthia Hahn and Kathleen (Joe) Zola. Ted is also survived by four grandchildren; Bethany Kent, Brian Kent, Benjamin Zola, Justine Zola and one great granddaughter Esther Kent.
Ted graduated from Cambridge Central High School in 1951. He then went to New York City and found a job in the construction department of McClellan Stores Company's headquarters on Fifth Avenue in Manhattan. He continued his education with additional coursework at Mechanics Institute's night school on 44th Street.
Ted was drafted into the United States Army in 1953 during the Korean War. He was honorably discharged 2 years later and returned to his job in New York. While Ted was in the service, he corresponded with a young lady living in the Geneva, NY area. She was called to his attention by a mutual friend. They fell in love through their many love letters. Less than three months after he was discharged, Ted married Barbara Ann (Gotts) on August 6, 1955. They started their life together in an apartment in Manhattan. They were very proud of their three daughters and their families.
Taking advantage of the GI Bill of Rights, Ted entered college. He graduated from Hudson Valley Technical Institute, the forerunner of Hudson Valley Community College, in 1959. Ted started a long work career with New York State by taking a State Civil Service examination. He was appointed to the position of Engineering Technician in September 1959.
Over the years he worked his way up to Senior Architectural Specifications Writer in the Design and Construction Group. After meeting the requirements of the Construction Specifications Institute, he was a Certified Construction Specifier.
Ted was an elder in the Presbyterian United Church in Schaghticoke, NY for many years. He served on the church board for 18 years and held several leadership positions over the 40 years of his membership in the church. After he and his wife moved to Saratoga County, he served as an elder for three years on the Consistory church board of Christ Community Reformed Church in Clifton Park, NY. Ted enjoyed playing chess, working in the yard, gardening and watching old movies. He was an ardent fan of the New York Yankees and the Cambridge High School football team. He cherished family get-togethers on holidays and special events.
Ted was predeceased by three brothers John Hahn, Kenneth Hahn and Harvey Hahn.
Burial will take place at 10:00 a.m. on Friday April 26 at the Gerald B. H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.
