Obituary of Paul Cote

Paul J. Cote, 81, of Clifton Park, New York passed peacefully on December 7, 2023,
at Albany Medical Center. Born In Woonsocket, Rhode Island to John E. and Marie
L. (Dagesse) Cote, he was raised in Blackstone, Massachusetts, and attended St.
Paul's School. He graduated with Honors from St. Mary's Central Catholic High
School in Milford, Massachusetts, where he met, Mary, his wife, of 58 years. He
graduated Cum Laude in Physics from the University of Massachusetts and
received both a Master's Degree and Doctorate Degree in Physics at Rensselaer
Polytechnic Institute. Upon graduation, he received the first annual Hilliard B.
Huntington Award for Best Thesis. Subsequently, he taught Physics at Siena
College before embarking on a long and successful career at Benet Laboratories at
the Watervliet Arsenal. In addition to the title of Research Physicist, he was also
Materials Branch Chief at Benet Laboratories. He authored more than 150
publications in Physics and Material Science Journals on amorphous metals, high
strength steels, electromagnetism, high temperature erosion, and protective
coatings. He was the recipient of three U.S. Army R and D Achievement Awards and
authored five U.S. Government Patents.
Paul had many interests and hobbies, which he shared with his children and
grandchildren. He loved the family times on Cape Cod, where he shared his love
for Art and Drawing, Painting with Acrylics, Watercolors, and Oils, and Chinese
Brush Painting. When it came to Music, it was the Blues Harmonica that he loved.
He ordered an authentic harmonica for each grandchild, so that they could
experiment. When his sons were young, he was active in Little League and Boy
Scouts. The Webelos meetings were held at home, where the boys made a
working radio as one of their many projects. He looked forward to hearing
Christine's picks for the year's go-to movies and books and referred to them
before choosing either. Paul enjoyed Golf, Biking, Cross Country Skiing, and long-
distance Train Travel, with Mary, across the United States and Canada. He was
blessed with a very rich and rewarding life.
Survivors include his wife, Mary M. (Fay) Cote
Children: Michael P. and Noshaba Cote; Stephen A. and Megan Cote;
Christine M. (Cote) and Frederick L. Hill
Grandchildren: Grace, Paige, Leila, and Dean Cote
Sister: Jeanne L. (Cote) Lozeau
Predeceased by Grandson: Benjamin Paul Cote
Father Patrick Butler, Pastor, St. Edward the Confessor Catholic Church, presided
over a private memorial service for Paul at the Catricala Funeral Home.
