I know Sister Mitchell Mei Kuan when I was a teenager in the church in Singapore. She helped me so much in my life. She always encouraged me to do the right and how to prepare to serve my full time mission and save money for my mission. She is a spiritual teacher to me and guided me how to teach the gospel principle class. I have learned a lot from her and all her good examples to me. I will always remember her and miss her. I pray for her family in this difficult time.

Ever since I came back from Chang-Hua at age six, Mei's been my constantly companion. We'd never had any disagreement. Though she's my younger sister, many times she acted like my older sister! She always could tell right from wrong. So straight forward so clean cut. With her, you hardly see any grey area. Many missionaries were looking forward to watch us fighting when we were companions on my last two months for my mission...they were disappointed! We became even closer after our missions. I knew what she's been thinking of and she could read my thoughts too. She had a husband who adored her, and two great sons. She's very much loved and highly respected. I know she's busy serving others on the other side of the veil. She maybe watching me and continue helping me to make smart decisions. I love her and glad that I did treasure every opportunity to talk with her while she's able to speak. So glad that she had a wonderful amazing life.

I was old enough to remember the day my dear little sister came in to the world. She had big brown eyes, light hair, (much lighter than most Asian babies) and a perfect shaped face…she was tiny, yet her spirit was strong. You’d think being the 5th girl of the family, she might not get much attention, but in contrast all 4 of her big sisters were excited to have a little baby sister to love. Mei had a very strong testimony of the gospel of the Lord! She was an avid reader, especially of good books pertaining to the gospel. Before she got sick we talked just about every day. We exchanged thoughts of our understanding on various subjects.I still get an urge to call her some days, then, the thought of not being able to talk to her leaves me with an empty, sad feeling. I miss Mei, because over the years she had grown to be so wise and mature. I can imagine how busy she is these days, helping to teach the gospel to our ancestors. I am looking forward to the day we can be together again.

For many years, my day had started with a conversation with Mei, since there's 3 hours time difference. My 5:30am would be Mei's 8:30am, she usually had finished some of her routines by then. We talked about almost everything: our daily plan, new discoveries in the scriptures, some uplifting ideas, a paragraph from the book we were reading. We shared a few books and enjoyed them. I particularly enjoyed the time we talked about Moroni, the lonely prophet and the last survivor of the Nephi nation. We both felt the loneliness of Moroni, and we loved him so.. however, we wished we wouldn't be in that lonely situation. Mei is not lonely, I am sure. She is surrounded by the people who she has done the genealogical work for and enjoy the plan of eternal salvation. They love and appreciate her.
It takes time for me to readjust my day and from time to time I feel that I still hear her voice. Mei really is not far away from us. She is free to go wherever and she still loves each one of us.

Mei was a very courageous lady. I still remember she was full of strength to fight against her cancer when I had dinner with her and Tom in fall 2013. Although she lost some weight at that time, her appetite was very good. She swore she would win the battle at the end. I'm deeply sorry for her passing. Her spirit to survive this deadly desease really is very inspiring. She taught me to never give up. Rest in peace!

What Is This Thing That Men Call Death?
What is this thing that men call death
This quiet passing in the night?
’Tis not the end but genesis
Of better worlds and greater light.
O God, touch Thou my aching heart
And calm my troubled, haunting fears.
Let hope and faith, transcendent, pure,
Give strength and peace beyond my tears.
There is no death, but only change,
With recompense for vict’ry won.
The gift of Him who loved all men,
The Son of God, the Holy One.

Mei holds a loving place in my heart. We shared a love for Ft Collins, CO. We shared a love of walking our neighborhood in TX and of Visiting Teaching and Relief Society.
She shared music with me when she was worried while I was ill from surgery. A music lover couldn't have asked for a better gift, she knew who needed what, and freely gave with love. Happy memories, such a joy to my heart. Love Beth
