My recollections of Allan all have to do with his involvement with the Jonesville Cemetery Association. As a Trustee, he joined us years ago in lifting and strengthening fallen monuments in the cemetery. It brought pleasure to him as we honored the deceased person. It was probably because of his personal goodness and perhaps because of his involvement in the war. There are certain traits I remember. When the Board was having differences of opinion, he would say with his deep voice, "Have you considered...? Or when I sent him a newsletter or an email, he would quickly respond with "very interesting." When I dropped him off after a meeting, he would end with, "Take care of yourself, young fellow." When I sat in his back porch one hot day, he would listen attentively, smile, ask another question, and welcomed whatever I said. What a kind spirit he offered each time. He served his country well and his community. God bless him as he joins the angels and the saints where there is no war, no struggles with illness, no conflict, but peace.

It was a pleasure to be able to count Al as a friend and comrad in arms. Although we were from different generations, we shared many commonalities, all the way down to trains passing our houses in the middle of the night. The pride he showed and felt in his family was truly from the heart. He was also a great sounding board for my stories before I went public with them
