Obituary of Margaret M. Hunsinger
Margaret M. Hunsinger, age 83 of Halfmoon passed away peacefully with family by her side on Tuesday, May 7, 2019. Born on September 23, 1935 in Brooklyn, she was the daughter of the late Thomas and Grace Lacey. She was preceded in death by her parents, brothers John, and Thomas and sister Grace
Margaret worked as a telephone operator for NYTel for 10 years, as well as Methodist Hospital in Brooklyn before becoming a staying home to raise her family. A single mother of 4, she dedicated her life to her children making sure they had whatever they needed as they grew up. In 1973 she then remarried to her first love William Antrobus, who’s federal job was transferred to Albany, so they moved to Halfmoon. She was a life member of the Clifton Park/Halfmoon Fire Dept. Ladies Auxiliary where she held the office of President of the auxiliary at one point during her tenue. She volunteered supporting the fireman by cooking meal for them during fires, or helping at fund raising events like Pancake Breakfast, Field Days or anything the department was involved in. She loved the department and being a volunteer by helping her community. She gave of her time volunteering for events or answering phones for the Children’s Miracle Network and the Children’s Hospital at Albany Med Telethon; the MDA Telethon and supported them whenever she could. Volunteering with the Clifton Park Fire Department has been a family affair with her serving along her children Arthur Hunsinger Past Chief, Ellen Martin current President, grandson Marcus Hunsinger currently a Lieutenant and her son James and Grandson Michael Paul who both served for a time.
She is survived by her sons Arthur Hunsinger and James Hunsinger, her daughter Ellen (Hal) Martin, all of Halfmoon and Beatrice Hunsinger of Cohoes; her sister Ellen Lacey Roberts (Logan) of Texas. She is also survived by her beloved grandchildren Marcus Hunsinger of Halfmoon, Deanna Hunsinger of Glenville, and Michael Paul of Cohoes, and her great-granddaughter Ciera Hunsinger, (Marcus Hunsinger).
The family wishes to thank the staff of Evergreen Commons Nursing Home in East Greenbush for their devoted loving care given to Margaret “Brooklyn”, and to The Community Hospice Staff for their care in her final days.
There will be no calling hours. A Celebration of Life Service will be held on Sunday, May 19th at 5:30 p.m. at St. Edward the Confessor Church, 569 Clifton Park Center Rd. in Clifton Park, with a reception to follow at the firehouse.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her memory to the Clifton Park Fire Department Ladies Auxiliary at 38 Old Route 146, Clifton Park, NY 12065 or to The Community Hospice Foundation 310 S. Manning Blvd. Albany, NY 12208.
