He was a wonderful man and my husband Tom, our granddaughter Nina and I so enjoyed seeing him on his walks in the neighborhood... building a special friendship with our family. We will miss seeing you Bill. You were very special to our Nina and shared the same birthday.. June 30th. Rest in peace sweet soul...

I will never forget Grandpa teaching me how to whittle sticks when I was about 6 or 7. He showed me the best branches to pick out to carve, and he bought me my first pocket knife that I ever owned. He also built me a little treasure box with a lock that I could store my knife in, aswell as candy that I hid from my brothers and sisters. I cherish these memories as some of the best times of my childhood.

I have this memory of Grandpa coming to stay a few days when I was about 12. I was off being a kid in the middle of summer so I didn't spend much time with him, but by the time he left he completely refinished a small treasure box I kept in my room. I made it when I was 8 at summer camp and I still have it today, the way he painted, sanded and put metal corners on it. I still keep photos in it and I think of him every time i see it. That box was a kindness that keeps reminding me of his generosity.
