Obituary of James P. Bowers
James Paul Bowers, age 77 of Halfmoon passed away on Saturday, April 28, 2018 at Ellis Hospital. James was born on April 28, 1941, the son of the late Harry and Frances Bowers.
Jim graduated from Mont Pleasant High School in 1959 where he excelled in many sports including track and field and was known for his left-hand pitch in Babe Ruth baseball. He went on to earn a degree in business from SUNY Cobleskill. In his early career, he worked in management at both JC Penney and GEX. He left the corporate world and in his later years he was known as a well-respected home painter, whose early nickname was “Paintbrush”, and was later known as “The Master Painter”. His clients became friends and his friends became clients.
Jim enjoyed the theatre and he and his friend Sue attended many plays over the years often accompanied by Sue’s mom Arleen. As much as Jim and Sue enjoyed the theatre, they more often could be found at Cliff’s Country Inn, owned by dear friends Cliff and Cathy Barlow and were tended to at “their booth” by Katy or Linda. He was a lifelong fan of the Boston Red Sox and the Kansas City Chiefs – and was pleased when the Red Sox eventually won the World Series.
Jim loved life and people and his most important goal was to make people smile. If you knew Jim, he’s probably creating a smile in your heart right now, perhaps even a silly one. Rest in peace Jim, you did your job well! Congratulations, you were a true success.
He is survived by his brothers Robert Bowers of Canada, and Richard Bowers of Scottsdale, AZ. For 40 years, Jim was a proud member of the Haig family, Sue, Arleen, Margie, Andy, Martin, and Harry, who is deceased.
