Obituary of Evelyn B. Prouty
Evelyn B. Prouty, 78, passed away peacefully from complications of Alzheimer Disease on December 14, 2017 at Schuyler Ridge Residential Healthcare in Clifton Park. She was the daughter of J. Howard and Helen K. Barrett. Evelyn was graduated from Shenendehowa High School in 1957, SUNY Albany in 1961 with a Bachelors of Science degree, and from Rutgers University with a Masters in mathematics. She taught high school math in Middletown, New York, Michigan City, Indiana, and Shenendehowa School for many years. Evelyn married Joel W. Prouty of Auburn, Massachusetts in 1971. They resided in Ballston and Charlton for over 40 years running a boarding kennel business. Evelyn was a talented quilter and brought joy to the members of her family as she made each one of them a quilt. She ran a business called The Quilt Room on Lake Hill Road for several years. She was an enthusiastic member of the QUILT North Guild of Saratoga County. Evelyn had an avid interest in renovating their 1800’s home, dog training, gardening, and gourmet cooking. In 2014, Evelyn and Joel moved to Rexford to be near family. She is survived by her husband, Joel W. Prouty, her sisters, Phyllis Holzhauer (George) and Isabel Prescott, both of Rexford, a niece, Jane Prouty Polston (Derek) of Crystal River, Florida, and five nephews, Eric Holzhauer of Rexford, Mark (Mary) Prouty of Auburn, Massachusetts, Geoffrey (Barbara) Holzhauer of Scotia, Kevin (Jennifer) Shea of Rexford, and Gregory (Christine) Holzhauer of Durham, North Carolina, and several cousins, grand nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life with catering will be held for family and friends at the Vischer Ferry Firehouse located on the corner of Riverview and Crescent Roads, Rexford, on Thursday December 21, 2017 from 4 pm to 8 pm. All are invited to help celebrate Evelyn’s life.
