In the summer of 1970 I asked Russ if he could paint the largest landscape painting he had ever painted. I wanted to be the first to pay him for his art. Russ painted a 4 by 7 ft landscape. All the guys were stopping by Russ' house to see how it was coming along.. After about a month he was finished. I gladly paid him $100 for it. A small fortune in 1970.
We strapped the painting to the roof of my 65 Buick and drove to the city to my new apartment. We almost lost it going into the Lincoln tunnel. I remember we were laughing so hard because one of the straps broke and Russ was sitting in the door frame with only his legs in the car holding the painting.
30 years later I was back in East Meadow visiting family and ran into Russ at a restaurant across from Home Depot. When we finally recognized each other we both paused, then both of us started laughing.....It was like we were never apart.

I was so sorry to hear that Russ had passed.
He ways always a gentleman, always charming
and never failed to make me laugh.

Whereever you are please send me signs. You already have. Alycia was driving to my home to comfort me and the liscence plate in front of her was RUSS 3. Yesterday I put on the radio. The song that came on was an oldie that meant a lot to both of us.The song was One Fine Day. I miss you so much.RIP my love.

My beloved cousin is gone and I am heartbroken. Russ was a gifted artist who inspired many and now his brush stokes will cease to find another canvas to paint. We can only enjoy the many paintings that he created over the years and reflect in the joy, insightful, peaceful and serenity of many of his works of art, even the children's book he did the illustrations for. When Russ was in your presence and he would lean in and tell you one of many of his funny jokes, it was like being in a private comedy club starring "Russ", resulting in a lot of laughs. He was a bright light in a room full of people that were naturally drawn to him. He truly loved his family and his family loved him more. I love and miss you terribly Russ-love cousin Rhett xo
