Obituary of David K. Wentworth

David Kent Wentworth, age 91 passed away on Wednesday March 12, 2014 at the Eddy Heritage House Nursing Home in Troy. He was born on December 23, 1922 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of the late prominent lawyer, Oscar E. Waer and the late Lavinia Kent Waer. He was preceded in death by his first wife Mary H. Merrill, the mother of his two children, his second wife, Salvacion G. Yu, originally from the Phillipines, and his brother, Robert Melville Waer. David legally changed his name to Wentworth, the ancestral name of his mother, after his mother passed away. He graduated from Phillips Exeter Academy, Exeter, New Hampshire and earned a B.A. degree in Social Studies from Harvard College and a Juris Doctor degree from Harvard Law School. He maintained an office in Brussels, Belgium and New York City for the practice of International Law. He also worked for many well-known petroleum Companies such as ARAMCO, Occidental and Sinclair Oil. During World War II, he served in the U.S. Army in Europe as a cryptographic technician, and interpreter in French and German, and has studied Arabic, Russian, Chinese and Spanish. He lived and worked in the Middle East, Europe, and Latin America and traveled extensively in South East Asia and Africa. Stateside he lived in many states, including California (Bakersfield), Louisiana (Mandeville), Nevada (Las Vegas), and most recently the Capital District area. He is survived by his son Nick (Andrea Dzierwa) Waer his daughter Nancy (John) Grzymkowski, grandson Paul (Angie Babbitt) Grzymkowski , sister, Virginia Dawson as well as nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews. A graveside service will be held on Monday at 11 a.m. at the Saratoga National Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be sent to the Mohawk Hudson Humane Society, 3 Oakland Ave., Menands, NY 12204.
