My sincere condolences to the Barnett family. A loved one lost can grieve the heart. I hope you find comfort in knowing that God knows the sadness you are feeling. He views death as an enemy and soon he will conquer that enemy. This he promises. 1Corinthians 15:26 and Revelation 21:3,4.

My condolence to Angela, children and family. Rick was a valued member of our company's board. His picture should be in Wikipedia under the heading of "honest business men of America." He cared about the people he associated with. He was not in it for Rick. He put the people around him first. Paradoxically it's what made him powerful. While very confident and talented, he had a genuine humility, also, that gave him power. He was always positive even in the toughest of situations. When faced with tough situations in business I often think of what Rick would be saying and doing in this situation.

I never got to know Rick the man. I knew Ricky the teenager and have thought of him often over the years. He was always making everyone laugh and known to be the life of party. He was also good at charming the teachers with his sense of humor. Being a Dad must have been so incredibly awesome for him. I remember how much he loved his two nieces at the time. He would often play with my little sister and I could never tell which one was the little kid. I was very shocked and deeply saddened when I read about his passing. I was also very happy to see that he had such an amazing life. I always knew despite all of the teen mischief that great things were waiting for the man he would become. If I could I would want him to know I am so proud of all of his accomplishments, what a legacy he has left. My most heartfelt sympathy to all of you

A tremendous man gone too soon. I am very sorry for your loss. Rick was a trusted advisor who often provided me sage advice. We were one of Blue Slate's first clients because Rick was stellar in everything he did. May God grant you rest Rick.

Dear Angela and family,
We never met, but we heard a lot about you from Rick during the recent three weeks in the Kellogg Advanced Management Program. We sat close to each other for an entire week. It was a real pleasure to meet such fine man and we all feel so sad, it is really unusual for people to be together for three weeks and feel like friends for life. English is not my first language, but I want to share with you a few words that I wrote for the Album we are preparing for Rick,
Ron Hadar, California.

On behalf of all of us affiliated with the Kellogg Advanced Management Program (AMP), please receive our deepest and most profound condolences on your loss. Words simply cannot express how saddened we were to hear the news of Rick's passing. We will always cherish his genuine warmth, great sense of humor and his zest for life. I had the great pleasure to sit next to Rick during one of our program dinners during our stay in Chicago and Rick could not stop raving about how much he loved you all, the great family vacations in Cape May, his cooking prowess, etc. He could not stop smiling during the program's graduation dinner and gave us all big bear hugs as we said our goodbyes. Rick was such a bright presence amongst the AMP class and a great friend to all of us. We will miss him deeply.
Sincerely,
Diana Cordova

Angela - My prayers and all good thoughts are with you and the family. Rick was truly one of a kind- the best kind. He brought energy and joy to every interaction I ever had with him, and I am lucky and thankful to have known him. We spent about a month overseas together on business, and my countless Rick anecdotes from that trip always make me smile.
My mental image of what an angel looks and acts like is now forever altered......Rick is surely shaking things up upstairs.

Dear Angela and family,
Even though I did not know your husband (Dad), he must have been a wonderful guy based on the obituary that I just read. I am truly sorry that this has happened to all of you. Please know that my prayers and my thoughts are with you. Angela, you were always a strong young lady and now you have to be even moreso. I wish I could be there to give you a hug, but I know you will manage--hard as it will be. I have faith in you.
With love and peace---

To Angela and to your children,
It was my great privilege to meet and get to know Rick in our Advanced Management Program here at Kellogg. He and I were seated next to each other at the opening dinner. He spoke at length about his special family and his love of cooking. I shared a recipe with him and he shared his no fail pie crust recipe with me. What a gift that is for me now.
Angela, on the last morning of the program, Rick was very busy tidying up his books and papers and looking anxious to get going. I laughed and asked him if he was feeling antsy to get to the airport. He said, "Yes. I need to get home to my wife. I've never been away from her this long and I miss her. We have dinner plans tonight". I wanted you to know about this moment with Rick.
You and your family are in my prayers. And thank you for sharing Rick with us.

Ricky graduated a few years ahead of me at BMC and he was one of those upperclassmen everyone looked up to. He was smart and very funny. One time, he came into my ninth grade English class and was teasing the teacher about making us read Romeo and Juliet. He did his own soliloquy of the balcony scene, answering the question of "wherefore art thou Romeo?" By saying " He's hiding in the bushes!" We all roared, including the teacher, Mrs. Dana, who was having a hard time pretending she was not amused.
I teach Romeo and Juliet now, and every time I get to the balcony scene, I laugh and wish that I had a kid like Ricky coming into my class to make that scene as fun and memorable as he did for us.
I extend to you my deepest sympathies.

We had the opportunity to meet Richard only once, at Auburn, but we instantly liked him, and his obituary does describe him as we remember him so well. Not everyone leaves such a great impression after only one meeting. I know you will miss him so much...there are not words. Please know that we are praying for you in your loss. We love you, Hannah. Please give your Mom and brothers our best and kindest sympathies.

So sorry for your loss. I had the opportunity to know Rick through the Kellogg AMP program. Though our time spent together through Kellogg was short, Rick made a lasting impression on me. He will be remembered for giving us all great hugs and for always having such a positive outlook on life. His 6-word story that he wrote captures the essence of his being: "Passionate resilience, live life like a child." Rick is a great person and friend and will be missed.
