Obituary of Carol Nye

Please share a memory of Carol to include in a keepsake book for family and friends.
Carol Elizabeth (Gorman) Nye, 78, of Clifton Park, NY, passed away at her home on Tuesday, May 27, 2025. Carol was born in Fort Covington, NY in 1947, the youngest daughter of Drs. Philip and Caroline (Macartney) Gorman. She was preceded in death by her parents, her siblings, Janet (Bill) Grimes, Martha (A. Bruce) King, Dr. David (Judy) Gorman, Susan Gorrow, and niece, Saralinda Grimes. She graduated from St. Joseph's Academy in Malone, NY in 1964. Carol was initially discouraged from pursuing her dream of becoming a nurse, so she explored several different career opportunities while traveling to new places and living life to the fullest. Carol was married to William E. Nye from 1968 to 1977, and they briefly owned a bookstore in Malone during that time. Carol returned to college at SUNY Canton and, in 1984, became a Registered Nurse, all while raising her daughter and working two jobs. She was employed for many years at United Helpers Nursing Home in Canton, NY, St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena, NY, and eventually retired from Sunmount Developmental Center in Tupper Lake, NY. Carol absolutely loved nursing and caring for people. When she wasn't at work, Carol enjoyed spending her time cooking and gardening. She loved quilting and doing puzzles, especially crosswords, and was an avid reader. You could often find Carol watching hockey and football games. She always had a soft spot for animals and loved her fur babies nearly as much as she loved her daughter. Carol was a helper, a giver, and she had a huge heart. She loved being a mom, not only to her daughter, but also to those she "adopted." She was quick with a joke or a story, and always had advice to offer, if you needed it (or not). You were truly blessed if you were the lucky recipient of one of her quilting projects, or some of her baked or canned goods. Carol is survived by her daughter, Jennifer Nye (Michael Dubay), her dog Rudy, cats Roscoe and Gabby, and several nieces, nephews, grandnieces, and grandnephews whom she loved so very much. Services for Carol will be announced at a later date. Please check back for information. In lieu of flowers, please consider making a donation in Carol's memory to the Potsdam Humane Society, 17 Madrid Ave, Potsdam, NY 13676, or Girl Scouts of NYPENN Pathways, www.gsnypenn.org.
